November 30, 2007:
Today, 150 global business leaders published a communiqué to world leaders calling for a comprehensive
legally binding United Nations framework to tackle climate change.
The initiative represents an
unprecedented coming together of the international business community and includes some of the biggest companies and
brands from around the world.
Led by the University of Cambridge Programme for Industry, the
communiqué was published in
today's Financial Times and was also signed by pensions who had attended
the P8 earlier this month (see below.)
November 5, 2007:
On November 5-6, 2007, with the generous support of The Nand & Jeet Khemka
Foundation, the first P8 Summit took place in London. Hosted by HRH The Prince of
Wales and The University of Cambridge Programme for
Industry, the P8 brought
together leaders from eight of the world's largest public pension funds and key
experts to discuss investment strategies to address climate change.
Experts included former U.S. Vice President Al Gore, Professor Sir David King, Professor Robert Socolow, Professor John
Schellnhuber and Hunter Lovins.
ECG's Bryan Martel initiated the P8 to provide a forum for leading pension executives to meet with their peers worldwide to share
lessons learned and work together to address environmental challenges as they relate to their portfolios.
September 29, 2007:
ECG is honored by The Funding Network (TFN), an
affiliation of individuals from a variety of backgrounds who come together to fund social change
causes. TFN recognized Environmental Capital Group for their leadership in bringing together
institutional investors to discuss and promote sustainable investments. TFN meets 2 times per year and
today's event was devoted to environmental projects. ECG's Harold Robinson presented at the gathering in London.
May 17, 2007:
The Environmental Technology Experts Center ("ETEC" - See June 2006, below) launched to its first group of experts for their review. The 125 experts are mostly faculty and all are at UC Berkeley. ETEC will open to the public
after the faculty have approved their profiles.
May, 2007:
ECG brings on Harold Robinson as Managing Director. Harold specializes in environmental start-ups and law.
February 21, 2007:
CalPERS will commit $400 Million
to a new private equity vehicle focusing on clean energy. The clean energy and technology program will concentrate
on energy, water and material technologies, products and services that reduce carbon
emissions, conserve natural resources and improve energy efficiency. The new investments will augment the
AIM
Program's current Environmental Technology Program.
January 2007:
At the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting,
Bryan Martel was a discussant on a panel on the topic of greening cities with
architect William McDonough, San Francisco Mayor
Gavin Newsom, and consultant experimental physicist,
Amory Lovins.
