ECG’s
proactive approach was instrumental in California
Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS) selecting
us to assist in the development and implementation of its clean technology
investment initiative. CalPERS is the largest pension fund in the
United States. Established in 1931 to manage the retirement funds
of state employees, today CalPERS has nearly $400 billion under management.
ECG conducted environmental due diligence for CalPERS
on many investment candidates through Pacific Corporate Group (PCG).
ECG monitored these investments that were split into seven cleantech funds from CalPERS'
initial US$ 200 million allocation to its AIM Environmental Technology Program.
ECG also conducted environmental due diligence on investments made through the
PCG Clean Technology and Energy Fund, which received US$ 400 million from CalPERS and US$ 200 million from the
New York City Employees' Retirement System. Through these programs, ECG established
environmental performance monitoring with most US-based cleantech Venture Capital Firms, including
NGEN, Craton Equity Partners, Carlyle/Riverstone, DFJ Element, RockPort Capital Partners, VantagePoint Venture Partners, and EnerTech Capital.
In this work we partnered with PCG, which provided conventional fund management services.
ECG was selected by the U.S. Department of State to develop public-private partnerships to catalyze clean technology deployment in India and China.
The objective of the program, as part of the Asia-Pacific Partnership on Clean Development & Climate,
was to catalyze investments in low-carbon technologies and projects in India and China.
The program successfully uncovered billions of dollars of investment projects which would potentially
offset hundreds of millions of tons of CO2, along with potential public and private funding sources.
